I’m Conall O’Shaughnessy. I’m a partner in the Litigation, Dispute Resolution and Investigations Group here at Arthur Cox and I work closely with both our domestic and international clients on a wide variety of matters which involve a contentious or strategic element. So that can include, for example, traditional inter parties litigation before the High Court or appeals courts, statutory or internal investigations, or through utilising the various forms of alternative dispute resolution, such as mediation or arbitration. In particular, I specialise in complex multi-party type litigation in the fields of competition law and technology law, as well as regulatory investigations. These are high stakes “bet the farm” type matters for our clients, where they really rely on their legal advisors to help them navigate their way through what is often very challenging and unfamiliar territory and how we do that is really twofold.
Firstly, I think we’re very good at gaining a very deep understanding of our clients’ businesses and what their commercial and strategic objectives are and then secondly, by leveraging the very key and specialist expertise we have across the firm in a number of key sectors. So for example, I work very closely with our Competition and Regulated Markets Group, our Technology and Innovation Group, and our Financial Services Group and what that means is that the litigation strategy that we are deploying is supported by specialist input throughout the life cycle of the dispute.
The last year was a very extremely busy year for our dispute practise. We continued to be involved in the most high-profile cases in the Irish Commercial Court, but we also saw an increased level of enforcement activity in the regulated environment, and I think that’s reflective of a number of recent legislative changes that have occurred in the last year, particularly in the areas of competition law and consumer law and I think that’s a trend that’s only going to continue in the 12 months to come.
